Hardmetals

Short Description:

Cemented carbide is a kind of alloy material made of hard compound of refractory metal and bonding metal by powder metallurgy process.

Cemented carbide has a series of excellent properties such as high hardness, wear resistance, good strength and toughness, heat resistance and corrosion resistance. Especially, its high hardness and wear resistance are basically unchanged even at 500 ℃. It still has high hardness at 1000 ℃.

Carbide is widely used as tool material, such as turning tool, milling tool, planer, drill, boring tool, etc. They can not only be used to cut cast iron, non-ferrous metals, plastics, chemical fibers, graphite, glass, stone and ordinary steel, but also can be used to cut heat-resistant steel, stainless steel, high manganese steel, tool steel and other difficult to process materials.

① Tungsten cobalt cemented carbide
The main components are tungsten carbide (WC) and binder cobalt (Co).
Its mark is composed of "YG" (the initials of "hard and cobalt" in Chinese Phonetic alphabet) and the percentage of average cobalt content. For example, YG8 means that the average WCo=8%. The rest are tungsten cobalt cemented carbides of tungsten carbide.

The general tungsten cobalt alloys are mainly used for cemented carbide tools, moulds and geological and mineral products.

② Tungsten titanium cobalt cemented carbide
The main components are tungsten carbide, titanium carbide (TiC) and cobalt. Its mark is composed of "YT" (the initials of "hard and titanium") and the average content of titanium carbide.

For example, YT15 means that the average TiC=15%. The rest are tungsten titanium cobalt cemented carbides with tungsten carbide and cobalt content.

TIC tool

③ Tungsten titanium tantalum (niobium) cemented carbide

The main components are tungsten carbide, titanium carbide, tantalum carbide (or niobium carbide) and cobalt. This kind of cemented carbide is also called universal cemented carbide or universal cemented carbide.

Its mark is composed of "YW" (the prefix of "hard" and "ten thousand" Chinese phonetic alphabet) and sequential number, such as YW1.
